Objectives of Steering Group

Short-Term

  1. Publicise the existence of the Platform using its website (ETPLAS.EU) and through presentations at Laboratory Animal Science (LAS) meetings
  2. Establish a database of Contacts for information sharing purposes
  3. Establish a Reference Group of stakeholders prepared to assist the Steering Group
  4. Develop recommendations for a framework of minimal requirements for mutual recognition of LAS education and training (E&T) courses to meet the requirements of Member States for free movement of personnel
  5. Compile and maintain an information source of training providers and point of contact for trainees (Article 23)
  6. Develop recommendations for a framework of minimal requirements for mutual acceptance of a person’s training/competence records to meet the requirements of Member States and employers for free movement of personnel

Medium / Long-Term

  1. Compile and maintain a list of accrediting bodies
  2. Develop an inventory of current material such as criteria for modules, standards of supervision, standards of assessment and examples of templates for recording training and assessment
  3. Seek long-term funding opportunities
  4. Share examples of good practice for course approval/accreditation and those processes used to achieve this
  5. Identify gaps in E & T and opportunities for additional courses
  6. Identify sources of training material and modules suitable for CPD
  7. Establish a database of courses to meet requirements of Article 24(1)a (responsible for care), Article 24(1)b (responsible for access to information), Article 24(1)c (responsible for training/competence and CPD), Article 25 (designated veterinarian), Article 38 (project evaluator)
  8. Establish a repository of teaching material for dissemination to course providers
  9. Establish network for training providers/accrediting bodies to share good practice in response to new developments
  10. Organise ad-hoc EWG meetings for specific topics e.g. train the trainers
  11. Organise review of modules, including quality criteria, and need for new modules when required
